Mediating Due Diligence

Understanding and strengthening the role of intermediaries in implementing due diligence

Stronger together: Intermediaries as partners in due diligence

With new legal requirements on corporate social responsibility, companies are coming under increasing pressure to address their potential negative impact on human rights and the environment. However, translating these requirements into concrete actions remains a major challenge.

Mediate explores the role that intermediaries-such as NGOs, consultants, trade unions, auditors, certification bodies and sector federations-can play in implementing processes of due diligence: the systematic identification, evaluation, mitigation, and reporting of human and environmental risks. At the same time, the project also contributes directly to capacity-building among intermediaries, and to building partnerships to address shared challenges.

Work packages

The Mediate project is made up of 10 interconnected work packages. Each package explores a different facet of due diligence and intermediary engagement, from legislation to practice and policy.
