Work packages

The Mediate project is made up of 10 interconnected work packages. Each package explores a different facet of due diligence and intermediary engagement, from legislation to practice and policy.

WP1: Un­der­stand­ing due diligence rules

We map new due diligence rules and standards, analyse the impact on intermediaries, and develop comparative studies and policy papers.

WP2: Due diligence in public tenders

We examine the application of due diligence rules in public procurement, focusing on European and Belgian legislation.

WP3: Due diligence in the financial sector

We examine the financial sector's role in due diligence, focusing on legislation, litigation and social campaigns. We formulate best practices for a responsible sector.

WP4: Government agencies as in­ter­me­di­aries

We map government bodies involved in due diligence and analyse their strategies and tools.

WP5: Midfield or­gan­i­sa­tions as in­ter­me­di­aries

We examine the role of NGOs and trade unions in due diligence processes comparing their different strategies and approaches.

WP6: Business as­so­ci­a­tions as in­ter­me­di­aries

We study the involvement of business associations in due diligence and examine sectoral differences in approach.

WP7: Multi-stakeholder initiatives and due diligence

We examine the role of multi-stakeholder initiatives in due diligence processes comparing their different strategies and approaches.

WP8: Private actors

We study the emergence of private service providers in due diligence. We map different types of services and technologies and examine differences in levels of regulatory alignment.

WP9: Mediation in practice

We examine mediation processes in the coffee chain through case studies, mapping the interaction between European and local actors and analysing the impact on small producers and communities.

WP10: Convergence and divergence of repertoires

We compare different practices of intermediaries and develop a typology. At the same time, we refine theoretical insights on the role of intermediaries in transnational governance.
